Description (Brief summary outlining history of your organisation, past project, future etc): The Albanian Mosque holds the honor of being Melbourne's first mosque. Established in 1963 by the Albanian Australian Islamic Society (AAIS), it was built through tireless volunteer efforts and generous donations from Albanian immigrants and the wider community. Construction began in 1967 and was completed by 1969, symbolizing the dedication of a close-knit community to establishing a place of worship and cultural connection.
In the early 2000s, the mosque underwent its first major renovation, which improved its facilities to accommodate the growing needs of the congregation. More recently, a significant renovation project began in 2022, aiming to further modernize and expand the mosque. While the project is almost complete, there are still some finishing touches to go.
These updates will ensure the mosque continues to serve the community for generations to come, standing as a symbol of resilience, generosity, and community spirit—a true cornerstone of Melbourne's cultural and religious heritage.
